Sunbed Damage

Hello Everyone,

Its Summer, finally! And as amazing as the sun is we live in a country where the weather is somewhat always questionable! With the lack of Vitamin D, we have three options.

1 - Embrace our natural skin colour

2 - Spray Tan or the use of tanning products

3 - Sunbeds

Lets talk about SUNBEDS - Also known as 'Death Machines'

Yes they are quick, simple and easily accessible plus relatively cheap to 'enjoy' but do you really know the damage sunbeds cause to your skin and overall health?

What is worrying is a vast majority of sunbed users know the damages and yet still continue to use them, in their bid for bronzed skin.

Is frazzling your skin and the risk of SKIN CANCER really worth it??

The answer is always NO, yet most sun bed users always say "its fine, nothing bad will happen to me" - That's what they all say until the unfortunate may happen to them.

It really is NOT worth it!!

Embrace your natural skin tone, or fake it with a professional tanning treatment or home application for your long term health!

There are so many self tanning products on the market these days that are safe.

For those reading this who use sunbeds PLEASE STOP!

It is a unhealthy obsession quite frankly!

Lets talk facts...........

Sunbeds are DEATH MACHINES and should be banned as they

More than 100,000 causes of skin cancer are diagnosed in the UK every single year, according to the NHS.

Tory MP for mid Derbyshire, Pauline Latham, called a debate in Westminster Hall to urge the government to BAN the commercial sale and use of sunbeds after being diagnosed with SKIN CANCER herself.

Australia and Brazil have already have a ban on the electric beds because of their link to skin cancer and Ms Latham wants the UK to follow suit.

She recently told MP's this -

"According to the World Health Organisation, sunbeds are as dangerous as smoking - many people do not realise that and in 2009 it classified them as carcinogenic to humans"

Worryingly, statistics show that people who have used a sunbed at least once, in any stage of their life, have a 20% higher risk of developing melanoma than those who have never used a sunbed.

The first use of a sunbed before the age of 35 increases the risk of developing melanoma by 59%

Labour MP Chris Bryant said "In all honesty, I think sunbeds are pernicious death machines"

They rely on peoples vanity in our lives, so let us not decry that.

We should be doing far more. 100,000 people get melanoma every single year, it is one of the most common forms of cancer and at least 10,000 people sadly die.

It is so vital and important we get this message across and educate those who use sunbeds or think its a harmless few minutes here and there.

Those who have children, say no to them using sunbeds. Tell them the health risks and that its not worth baking their skin for a sun kissed look.

All its doing is burning your skin, causing irreversible damage and ages you a lot quicker - plus the higher risk of skin cancer!

People frequently exposed to UV rays before the age of 25 are at a greater risk of developing skin cancer later in life

These statistics are certainly worrying!

Cancer Research have warned "Sunbeds give out harmful ultraviolet rays that damage your skin and can make it wrinkled, older and leathery"

Did you know the UV Rays from sunbeds can also damage DNA in your skin cells, and over time this damage can build up to cause skin cancer.

One study found that the average skin cancer from sunbeds can be more than double than of spending the same length of time in the Mediterranean midday summer sun.

So please keep this harmful statistics in mind next time you willingly fry your skin for x amount of minutes in order to have year long sun kissed skin.

Please do share this blog post as its very important we share and educate the harmful dangers of these harmful deadly killing machines.

Please seek medical help if you have noticed any abnormalities on the skin.

Until next time,

Best Wishes
