So amongst so many events having to be cancelled this year due to Corona Virus, to my surprise London Fashion Week went ahead. In all the years I have been part of LFW, I never thought I would experience working back stage on a show during a global pandemic! But through everyone's determination, passion and optimism the show went on!
Only 3 designers went ahead with actual catwalk shows, one Mark Fast. I have been lead nail artist for Mark Fast for 2 years and this was my sixth show lead!
Designer Mark Fast is such a creative artist and he felt it was important the show must continue to go on, even with social distancing and strict guidelines in place.
My team of 6 manicurists was reduced to just two, myself being one of them and all creative artists having to wear masks and visors backstage at all times.
For the actual show, there was a small audience who all had their own bench, with a 2m distance.
We also had a change of venue, this time we were at The Hackney Depo in London's East End.
Mark Fast's SS/21 collection had a 90's disco rave, with Mark's love of neon and graffiti print throughout.
There was a total of 15 female models and 5 male models showcasing the collection. There were 42 'looks' in total for SS/21 Catwalk show
Nail Looks -
After meetings with the designer and stylist, 3 looks were chosen; for the female models there was a mix of plain white gloss nails, plain black gloss nails and graffiti nail art which spelt out 'Mark Fast' in his signature logo.
All nails were hand painted using nail polish, even the models who had nail art I applied the white or black base and allowed to semi dry before hand painting the letters.
For the male models, nails were kept neutral with a quick shape and application of cuticle oil.
Despite everything going on in the world, the show was a success and as always I had a great time manicuring the models nails backstage and watching the show, this time from a distance. The show was live streamed and can be found on You Tube if you wish to take a look
